What’s in an Emoji

Using Emojis have become a way of life the past few years, the first Emoji being released in 1999. Gone are the days of doing a manual smiley face 🙂

Recently on our girly day out, myself and Josie went to see the Emoji Movie. Having heard bad reviews I must admit I hadn’t been looking forward to this, but I actually quite enjoyed the film. I would definitely buy this on DVD. This got me thinking to how much I personally use Emojis.

Emojis are a great way of visual shorthand symbols. How many of you have gone in detail with Emoji reading or sending. Like when dating, you want to impress the person and the emoji you send can mean you make or break the way for further communication. When is the right time to send an Emoji with heart eyes in a new relationship, or do you play it cool with a standard smiley face.  This is part of the dilemma in the film I mentioned earlier. Same way if you are annoyed messaging someone would you send an angry emoji, or even (dare I say it) no Emoji at all to make a statement.

Then you get the good friends that you can do an Emoji chain. Like if I was telling my BFF Estelle that I am sick with a cold. I would send ‘sneeze’ ‘sick’ ‘monkey eyes covered’

My most used Emojis are:

Monkey -I absolutely LOVE the monkeys!  I use these for ‘Oh No’ and ‘Oh Dear’ references

Thumbs Up -I probably use this the most as much easier than typing ‘No Worries’ or ‘Perfect’

LOL Face -Again this is one I use ALOT! This is my laugh out loud, or those of you that know the modern lingo of LOL

Thinking Face -This is my Pondering emoji. I often use this if want to say I am ‘Thinking’ or a sarcastic emoji of ‘Ummm’

Unicorn -Obvs I would use this one. No explanation needed

Kiss -Constantly use this as a ‘Thank You’

Currently there are over 1800 Emoji icons, and more that were revealed in Spring that should be released very soon. You can see these below (courtesy of Emojipedia)

Straight away I know the additions of my most used Emojis looking at the new list…..Face with Star Eyes, Mermaid, Fairy, Dinosaur and Chuckling Face

From the technology available today you can see enormous changes from the original pixelated Emojis, to the high detailed images today. It is reported in the new upcoming IOS 11 update, you will also have the option of animated emojis. On the new iPhone X you will also be able to use your own facial expressions and voice to create your own Animoji faces using.

I am hoping some new Emojis in the pipeline will include: Flamingo, Cupcake, Castle, Kawaii Theme, different types of Cats and Dogs, Guinea Pig.

What Emoji’s do you mainly use?

I haven’t seen the Emoji movie myself yet, but my niece loves it (& my brother does too!)

I absolutely love using emojis! I think they make having conversations online so much easier, in that they can perfectly describe how you are feeling! It’s quite amazing to be honest that some little cartoon emoticons can have such meaning! I also find they help me a lot because I’m socially awkard… I can use an emoji without having to say something and get my point across 🙂

My most used emojis are the ‘oh no/oops’ monkey face, the laughing face, the heart eyes emoji, the two little pink hearts one, the sobbing emoji and the ugh emoji. Oh and lately, the pumpkin emoji! YESSS kawaii themed emojis would be AMAZING! x
